The Yale Livable City Lab works at the intersection of urban planning, technology, and sustainability to shape the future of our cities. They needed a visual identity that could effectively communicate their academic rigor while expressing the dynamic, forward-thinking nature of their research. We created a flexible system built around an expanding town square motif, complemented by abstract shapes derived from real city blocks studied by the Lab. The identity balances academic heritage through refined typography and colors with contemporary energy through vibrant gradients. This duality extends throughout the system – from the dynamic logo to the website design – creating a visual language that positions the Lab as both a serious research institution and an innovative force in urban design.
